1Programs in Biomedical Engineering

Undergraduate Program -- General Information

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Michigan Technological University (Houghton, MI) offers a curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Engineering (BSBE). The curriculum includes engineering fundamentals and advanced courses in engineering and the life sciences. All students participate in a Biomedical Engineering design practicum during their senior year.

The Biomedical Engineering program is ideal for those students wishing to enter industry upon completion. However, the curriculum has some flexibility and lends itself well for those students wishing to work in health professions (i.e. Physical Therapy, Medical Doctorate, etc.) and/or graduate school.

A variety of internships and cooperative education opportunities are available. Biomedical Engineering students are encouraged to participate in these programs upon the completion of their freshman year.

Michigan Tech's Biomedical Engineering program prepares graduates to assume leadership positions in their respective professions.

Department Mission

The Department of Biomedical Engineering serves the university, the community, and the biomedical engineering profession through education, research and design activities. The Department offers innovative educational programs that integrate biological sciences and engineering, and apply engineering tools, methods and practices to solve problems in biology and medicine. Graduates of our programs are highly-skilled biomedical engineers who understand the ethical, social and economic implications of their work.

Program Objectives

The educational objectives for the Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering (BSBE) program are:
